We all know the importance of keeping our body hydrated. We can keep our skin hydrated by keeping our body hydrated, making sure we drink at plenty of natural mineral water as well as cutting down on substances that act as natural dehydrators – such as caffeine, sugary drinks and alcohol.
But we can also keep our skin hydrated by using natural skin care products contains an ingredient that does three important things - add moisture, lock in moisture and hold moisture. That ingredient, is Hyaluronic Acid.
When our skin is parched and thirsty, we can feel weak, dizzy, lethargic and tired. It’s the same thing for our skin - when it is dehydrated it can look dry and flaky. The skin on our face – most notably on our cheeks can look like very fine silvery-white lines – a bit like an onion. Dehydrated skin can look dull and lack that healthy glow.
For an instant boost of hydration try using a refreshing natural toner – spritz it over your face and you’ll instantly feel like less parched – and it will help make you feel more awake but make sure the toner doesn’t contain alcohol as this can end up drying out your skin. Look out for natural toners that contain organic flower waters like Rose Water and Orange Blossom water. Freshen Up is my natural toner that really keeps my skin looking and feeling fresh.
The one raw material that seems to be THE beauty buzz words of the moment is Hyaluronic Acid. It appears in so many different skin care formulas – from big manufacturers like L’Oreal to smaller niche brands like Angela Langford – Hyaluronic Acid is a key ingredients that we should look out for – but what does it really do and how does it work?
The press have termed Hyaluronic Acid as “The Fountain of Youth”. Hyaluronic Acid – referred to on a cosmetics label as Sodium Hyaluronate – is a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. It is what gives our skin volume and this volume is associated with youth and young, healthy skin. As we get older the levels of naturally occurring Hyaluronic Acid diminish in our bodies and with that our skin loses its volume and plumpness. When our skin becomes damaged – for example if we get sunburnt, our skin stops producing as much Hyaluronic Acid.
The reason Hyaluronic Acid helps keeps our skin plump is that it can hold more water than most other large molecules – it acts a bit like a natural sponge – it can absorb and retain a thousand times its own weight in water which makes it a superb skin hydrator. These hydrating properties help plump up the skin – so wrinkles are evened and smoothed out.
By using organic hand creams, serums and other natural skin care products that contain Hyaluronic Acid we can increase the levels of Hyaluronic Acid in our skin as it can penetrate into our skin and help plump up our skin.
You’ll find Hyaluronic Acid in the following organic skin care products: Perfect Pores, A Little Lift, Thirsty Work and Balancing Act.
